Located on the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, and set in the beauty and tranquility of a Northern Ontario setting, the Parry Sound Area’s natural environment offers numerous year round opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle. The social environment is characterized by a strong sense of belonging and commonality supported by inclusive social groups, organizations, and networks. The Parry Sound Area consists of seven municipalities, including the Township of the Archipelago, Carling Township, the Municipality of McDougall, the Township of the McKellar, the Town of Parry Sound, Seguin Township, and the Municipality of Whitestone. The Parry Sound Area has a population of 16, 760 people, with this number increasing drastically in the summer months with the influx of cottagers and seasonal residents. Health Care in the Parry Sound Area
The West Parry Sound Health Centre, opened in 2005, provides quality health care services to the Parry Sound Area in the 240,000 square foot facility. Services include a 24 hour emergency room, numerous specialist clinics, and a rehabilitation centre. The hospital also runs multiple nursing stations in outlying areas. Education in the Parry Sound Area
There are two school boards in the Parry Sound Area. The Near North District School Board oversees the community’s multiple public elementary schools, as well as Parry Sound High School. The Parry Sound Roman Catholic School Board offers elementary school students the option for schooling rooted in Roman Catholic beliefs and values. The community is also home to the internationally recognized Rosseau Lake College. There is also great opportunity for post secondary education with Canadore College being located right in Parry Sound. Art and Culture in the Parry Sound Area
The Parry Sound Area’s cultural highlight is the spectacular Charles W. Stockey Centre, a 480 seat venue that hosts the renowned Festival of the Sound and year-round programming. The centre is surrounded by a community rich in art, culture, and history. The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, located at the same location, chronicles the more recent rise of the community’s hockey legend.
